Colby & Reece – Canmore Wedding Photographer

Sometimes we meet people who we just click with instantly. I felt that way when getting to know Reece & Colby as we chatted about their love story and their plans for their wedding day during our first coffee meeting. That feeling of friendship continued through the engagement session, happy hour margaritas, and then of course, their beautiful (and super smoky) August wedding day. Having a similar story to Sean and I, they were quickly smitten, and became engaged two years after meeting – they just knew. These two have an easy love; they are each other’s best friends and the way Reece looks at Colby is SO heart warming… when Colby walked down the aisle he looked as if his heart could just explode at any moment. One of my favourite visual aspects of the day was their classic style. I love a groom who can pull of the classic black suit and bowtie, and Colby was breathtaking in her lace Katie May gown and long veil. And those flowers… and the archway… Okay, I’ll stop swooning and let you swoon over this beautiful day now.

Kamilla & David – Azuridge Wedding – Calgary Wedding Photographer

My first experience photographing a wedding at Azuridge was for Kamilla and David’s beautiful day. I love when couples are able to find a venue that offers everything they need… a place to stay, get ready in the morning, have their ceremony, photograph their formals, and celebrate their reception. It makes for a relaxed day and more time for photos, which of course is a bonus for me. I’ve loved working with these two since our first meeting – I remember how excited I was when they hired me afterwards for their big day… it felt like a perfect match. Then, they added some fabulous vendors to their day which I’ll list below, and everything came together perfectly. We ended the day in my very favourite way, with sunset photos – the light was perfect and I left Azuridge with a big smile on my face. Thank you K & D, and the other wonderful couples this year who have trusted me to photograph your special days.

Black & White Imagery – Calgary Wedding Photographer

In case you didn’t know, I really love black and white images. I believe that some photographs are just supposed to be black and white – the absence of color gives them something. Sometimes that certain “something” is meaning, or focus, or detail. Sometimes it’s just about simplicity, black and white images can help draw your eyes to what’s most important.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking over the last 4 months… about where I want to take my business, what aesthetic fits my style and my direction the best, etcetera etcetera. One aspect I found myself questioning was my black and white edits. There are so many decisions we make as business owners, and our editing choices are some of the most important ones. I reached out to friends, family and past clients, and found a lot of encouragement to pursue the new b&w look. I believe it has a more fine art feel to it, it shows detail better than before, and I love the timelessness to it. I am excited to share all of the other changes I am making to my business, and will be announcing it all come June! But for now, it’s been a while since I shared a blog post, and I wanted to share this change with you! I had a lot of fun (yes, fun, I actually enjoy editing for the most part) working on these new black and white images from the last few years, and it feels good to be back on the blog too!

I would love to hear your thoughts! Happy Spring everyone! Here’s to the season of new life and new beginnings.
