Black & White Imagery – Calgary Wedding Photographer

In case you didn’t know, I really love black and white images. I believe that some photographs are just supposed to be black and white – the absence of color gives them something. Sometimes that certain “something” is meaning, or focus, or detail. Sometimes it’s just about simplicity, black and white images can help draw your eyes to what’s most important.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking over the last 4 months… about where I want to take my business, what aesthetic fits my style and my direction the best, etcetera etcetera. One aspect I found myself questioning was my black and white edits. There are so many decisions we make as business owners, and our editing choices are some of the most important ones. I reached out to friends, family and past clients, and found a lot of encouragement to pursue the new b&w look. I believe it has a more fine art feel to it, it shows detail better than before, and I love the timelessness to it. I am excited to share all of the other changes I am making to my business, and will be announcing it all come June! But for now, it’s been a while since I shared a blog post, and I wanted to share this change with you! I had a lot of fun (yes, fun, I actually enjoy editing for the most part) working on these new black and white images from the last few years, and it feels good to be back on the blog too!

I would love to hear your thoughts! Happy Spring everyone! Here’s to the season of new life and new beginnings.

Brittany & Kiel’s Lake House Wedding – Calgary Wedding Photographer

I really love what I do. I love meeting couples like Britt & Kiel and photographing their beautiful wedding days. I get to experience some of their best moments with their favourite people in the world, all together in one place. And the aesthetic beauty of the day – the gowns, the accessories, the flowers, that’s just the cherry on top. These two were a perfect example of a work romance gone right – and years after their first date, they tied the knot in a romantic ceremony at The Lake House. Kiel & Brit read their sweet vows to one another, shed a few tears, and then had the biggest smiles on their faces as they walked back down the aisle as husband and wife. I’m so happy for you two, and cannot wait to deliver the final product! Cheers to a wonderful life together!

Lauren & Kelby – River Cafe Wedding – Calgary Wedding Photographer

Happy 2017, friends! I have such big plans & dreams for the year ahead – you’ll be seeing some changes around here over the next few months! The site will be getting a makeover, and I’m working on blending my current style with a slightly more “fine art” feel. And while I’ll be travelling a few times this year for work, I’m hoping that 2018 will be my year for more destination weddings. Anyways… I’m getting ahead of myself! I’m so excited to share my first wedding of the year with you all – Lauren & Kelby’s winter wedding at the River Cafe. This day was 10 years in the making – can you even believe that? These two were middle school sweethearts, and 10 years after their first date, they said I Do in front of their closest friends and family. Another fun fact, they planned this beautiful day in only 8 weeks. It came together so beautifully, you would never know they had a short timeline to work with. Thank you, L & K for choosing me to photograph such a special day – I loved hearing about your journey together, and it was a pleasure to capture your stunning, intimate wedding day.

Rachel & Scott – Calgary Golf and Country Club Wedding – Calgary Wedding Photographer

A year ago, Rachel & Scott planned a beautiful engagement session on the lake where Scott popped the question – complete with a canoe, tulle skirt, and cute bicycles. It was a dream come true, unlike any session I’ve ever captured. I knew if their engagement session was that fantastic, their wedding would be even more amazing. With the help of Claudette Marie Events, the couple planned a stunning day with so many pretty details and sweet moments. Rachel is a bride after my own heart, her wedding day look was so natural and classic, and she’s just as lovely on the inside. I loved hearing more about her and Scott’s love story, they started as friends, but that bond quickly grew into more… and after just a few hours with the couple, you can easily understand why. The fun-loving pair ended the day (or at least their time with me… they went back into the venue to party!) with a beauuuutiful sparkler exit – and their smiles were so genuine, it’s easy to see why their friends and family see them as a perfect match. The weather threatened us all day, and although we did have to pull out the umbrellas a few times, we ended up being so lucky, we couldn’t even believe it. Rachel and Scott, thank you for choosing me to be your photographer. From your engagement session to your beautiful wedding day, it’s all been such a pleasure.
