I believe that your choice of wedding venue truly sets the scene and the vibe of your special day. I believe in that so much that we had our guests drive two hours to another city just to get married at The Norland Estate in Lethbridge. It was so worth it – the butterflies in my stomach as we drove down the tree lined driveway to the estate, the classic backdrop of our reception and ceremony, being able to have our entire celebration outside, the stunning estate grounds that meant we didn’t need to drive anywhere for photos – it was all perfect because we chose the right venue for us. Was it the easiest venue? No, definitely not. was it 100% worth it? Yes.
If you and your fiancé have decided on a Calgary (or area) wedding, you’ve come to the right post. Here I share with you my favourite YYC based spots for your wedding day – the venues that I feel align with my photography style and places I feel deliver great experiences for my clients! Enjoy, and if you have any questions, please reach out to me, I would love to chat more with you about my experiences with different venues.
Beautiful Outdoor Ceremony Space – Reader Rock Garden
Capacity: Around 80 guests, seated
Why I love this venue: Reader Rock Garden is an absolute dream for outdoor ceremonies in the Spring and Summer. There are multiple garden and lawn areas to hold your ceremony, which also make for wonderful photo spots for your formal pictures. When getting married at Reader Rock Garden, you have the opportunity to do the majority of your photos there too, which is a treat since usually they charge for access. There are lots of hidden gems around the park too which I would love to show you!
Charming Outdoor & Tented Venue – Rouge Restaurant
Why I love this venue: Rouge just might be my favourite outdoor wedding venue that Calgary has to offer. They have a beautiful green space for ceremonies and cocktail hour, beyond amazing food, and a tent that is perfect for a covered yet still outdoor reception. One of the bonuses of booking Rouge is their lovely upstairs area which is great for getting ready photographs! I highly recommend you check it out, and then you know, book me as your photographer! 😉
Garden, Greenhouse & Outdoor Venue – The Saskatoon Farm
Why I love this venue: The Saskatoon Farm has some unique features for weddings, such as their wooden pergola setting for ceremonies and their large greenhouse for bright receptions. One of my favourite things about this spot is that it can have a winery feel to it, especially during sunset photos in the rows of bushes. My only warning for The Saskatoon Farm is that if you have your reception in the tent, it can be extremely warm. I’m hoping they make some improvements there for the 2020 season and beyond!
Classic, Elegance in the British House – Spruce Meadows
Why I love this venue: I am obsessed with white rooms, chandeliers and wall detailing, so it has to be on this list! I adore the classic feel to the Georgian Room on the main floor and how it can act as a blank canvas to dress up however you please. I personally would suggest muted tones, lots of white/ivory and gold accents to compliment the room! A bonus to having your wedding at Spruce Meadows is that they have multiple ceremony spaces and pretty spots for photos around the property.
Formal & Elegant Ballroom Weddings at The Fairmont Palliser
Capacity: Over 300 in the Crystal Ballroom (below)
Why I love this venue: It’s safe to say that I love all of the iconic Fairmont properties and the history they offer. The Crystal Ballroom is so elegant and detailed, it doesn’t need much to make it shine for wedding receptions! One bonus – totally classic evening photos in front of the hotel. It’s a must!
Rustic & Elegant Restaurant for Ceremony & Reception – The Lake House
Capacity: 150 to 190 depending on space
Why I love this venue: I have shot countless weddings at The Lake House, and while it’s more rustic than the other spots on my list, I had to include it because of that gorgeous fireplace and the unbelievable food! The Lake House is such a beautiful spot with a rustic meets classic feel. I especially love winter weddings at The Lake House, as it’s a safe option for ceremonies year round, regardless of our crazy Alberta weather!
Indoor and Outdoor Ceremonies & Receptions at Pinebrook Golf Club
Why I love this venue: Pinebrook recently underwent a beautiful renovation and I love it! They’ve added some modern elements to what was a mainly rustic venue, including new lighting and a stunning bar area. However, my favourite thing about this venue has to be the outdoor areas! Mountain views, beautiful tree lined driveways, and a lovely lawn for outdoor ceremonies – this venue is really a one-stop shop!
And lastly, a new Calgary venue that I would love to shoot at soon:
Best wishes to you all as you plan your big day!
